MS installer cleanup utility (Home premium)

I'm trying to install the latest version of Apple iTunes and Quicktime, but the installation hangs up every time. The files seem to download OK, but the installation process hangs. I went to Apple's help site and found advice that sounds promising. It said to download and install the Microsoft installer cleanup utility (msicuu.exe). They even offered a helpful link to the Microsoft Web site, and there I clicked the link to download this little utility. The download dialog box opens, but the download hangs up and won't let me close the dialog box. I have to resort to the 3-finger salute, and when I stop the download it closes (and then re-launches) Internet Explorer. I've gone through this process three times with the same results. I've disabled my Carbonite backup and my Norton 360 autodetect, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

I'd be leery of running this on a Vista system. I don't see anything that says it is compatible with Vista. Is Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility where you go the download link? Msicuu Overview has the system requirements.

The first link you included does list Vista, both 32-bit and 64-bit. Since I posted, I thought to try re-booting. As my system was re-booting, I happened to notice the icon for this utility's download file on my desktop. Well, the @#*% thing did download after all, despite all the annoying behavior. At any rate, I now have a working clean-up utility up and running, but I have not yet used it to clean-up my iTunes installer files. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply, Joe!

You're welcome. Sorry for the confusion on my part. I must have had my eyes crossed. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

    Good luck with the cleanup.
