    Project Templates/Examples (98)

    Hi,

I am trying to coordinate the opening of some new stores over the next few months.

Excel is struggling with the sharing of data amongst many users, and I wondered if Project was a possible tool that could help.

There are many jobs that need to happen with a store opening (shop fit, building works, cabling, tills, merchandising etc), internal & external resources - and keeping track of all is tricky!!

Does anyone have any examples that may help me, or point me towards some url's that may help??

    Thanks in advance.

    Andrew

I'd be happy if someone else jumped in with their opinion here, but here goes.

When you are talking about sharing information with other people - what kind of information?
Do you want to give printed reports to people about what is going on?
Project works best when there is one "Project Manager" - giving file access to a number of people is going to buy you a world of pain, in my opinion.
Now if you want participants to record things like hours spent on a task you can set up Project 98 to run on a web server - though Project Central (part of Project 2000) is way better at that.

    Cheers

    Hi,

    Thanks for that.

Does anyone know - is there a demo version of project central?

The reason I ask is that there are many groups of people (both internal and external to my org.) therefore some will have direct access to project, others wont have heard of it (but will need updates/reports/to do's etc).

Any specific examples of building work/facility openings would be greatly aprpeciated.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Unless you got your hands on the beta version of Project 2K - I think you are out of luck. Project Central is not a stand-alone product. It is designed to feed Project 2K info back and forth from a web server.
That being said - one of the great justifications of buying Project 2K is Project Central - because only the Project Manager needs Project. All others can access the project information using their web browser (oh - there are some assumptions about what brand and version of web browser will be used - surprise! <img src=/S/sarcasm.gif border=0 alt=sarcasm width=15 height=15>).
Of course you also need a webserver and software too so perhaps any savings are illusory if you don't have that available to you already.

Project 98 does have some workgroup features - have you experimented with those?

    Cheers
