Vista ultimate keeps either going to sleeporcrashi (vista ultimate sp1)

    This is my computer:
    Motherboard: MS-7379

Basic I/O System(BIOS): Default System BIOS

    Central Processing Unit(CPU): Intel® Core(tm)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

    Physical Memory: 2048MB

Hard Disk: WDC WD3200AAJS-65VWA0 ATA Device (298GB)

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO

    Monitor: LG L226WTX(Digital)

    Audio Device X 2

    High Definition Audio Device

    Realtek High Definition Audio

    Network Adapter

Local Area Connection - Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) (Connected)

Local Area Connection 2 - VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet1 (Connected)

Local Area Connection 3 - VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMnet8 (Connected)

Modem: Agere Systems PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem

    Keyboard: USB Human Interface Device

Keyboard: Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys

    Keyboard: Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard

Keyboard: Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard

    Mouse: USB Human Interface Device

    Mouse: HID-compliant mouse

I'm not quite sure what is happening. The computer either goes to sleep and won't wake up, or it just crashes. I know that it is going to sleep b/c of how it wakes up. And, after it goes to sleep it does not run right and crashes soon after. The bios sometimes will stall recognizing one of my usb hard drives. Can anyone help?

Do you know what error the crash is reporting? Do you have up-to-date drivers for the networking and video cards? Did this only start occuring after SP-1 was installed?

Thanks for the quick reply. There is no error message reported since the computer does not come back to life when I wiggle the mouse or tap on the keyboard. Nor is a BSOD visible since the screen is blanked when I try to wake it up. The network drivers are current and the video driver is current. I have reformatted and reinstalled vista 3 times and this keeps happening. It happened before and after sp1 was installed.

Have you checked the event logs? Have you tried disabling the VMware connections?

Good suggestion. I haven't checked the event logs. I will do that. This was happening before vmware was installed, I only installed that a couple of days ago.

    Dale,

    Which hard drive is that?

Have you checked in Control Panel>Admin Tools>Event Viewer, to see what if anything is mentioned there?

How about Device Manager? Anything flagged there?
