Word file is massive (2003 SR1)

    Hi all

I have a word file that is 25 pages long and has some tracked changes in it but nothing else ie no pictures or inbedded files. It is 8MB in size but when copied and pasted into another document it comes down to 148kb. Can anyone shed any light on why the file would be so big.

It is not unusual that copying/pasting into a new document results in a smaller file size: as a document is edited, it gradually builds up a lot of unused stuff, such as styles that are no longer used. The difference you mention is extreme however, there must be something else going on. But without seeing the document, it's impossible to tell what causes it.

You can zip the document, then click the LoungeAdmin link at the bottom of the Lounge page and attach the zip file to the e-mail. (It might be a few hours before I have time to investigate it).

    Hi hans

I checked the version control and there was a previous version in it that when deleted brought the document down to 196KB so we are fine now. Thanks for your help
