Sum nonadjacent numbers (Excel 2000 SR 1)

Please help me - again. See attached file. In B17 I need a formula that sums all of the July 2001/2002 amounts found in Row 3. I know I can do = and then point and click in each cell to be summed - but I'm hoping for a simpler solution. Thanks in advance.

    The formula for b17 is
    =SUMIF(1:1,"1999/2000",2:2)
This looks along row 1 for "1999/2000" and then includes the value in row 2 in the total.

    Try

    =SUMIF($1:$1;B$16;2:2)
