    Strange file in the registry

Can someone, please enlighten me about ST6UNST #3 ?
I've searched here (no match) and on Google and found people who had found it on their computer. But, nowhere, have I found what program or file it pertains to on my computer.

If it were on my hard drive I could find the information, but being in the registry, no information is available, far as I can tell. It looks like an un-installer of some kind.
It looks like it might be an uninstall program.

Can you tell us where in the registry you found this? Please provide the entire path.

It is uninstall information for programs that you have installed and that were written in Visual Basic 6, one of Microsoft's programming languages. You should not edit or remove these registry entries. They will be used if you decide to uninstall those applications.

I will not touch them, but is there no way to tell which program they apply to?

Well, Visual Studio is one that comes to mind, but you'd better wait for Hans to come back. He seems to be more familiar with this than I am.

But, I'm curious as to what in the world made you go digging THAT FAR DOWN in the registry for this one, Gloria? That takes a LOT of clicking just to get down that far into the registry. Did you get an error message from something or a virus warning or whatever?

    Yes:
    - Locate the ST6UNST #n key in RegEdit.
    - Double-click the SlowInfoCache entry in the right hand pane.
    - Although it's a bit difficult to read, you can see the associated application.
See the screenshot below - the captions are Dutch, but the idea is clear, I hope. The window lists the application C:Program FilesTangentDemoTangent.exe.

Re: Strange file in the registry

Search stopped near them and I wondered what they were. I can't remember what I was deleting but that is where I saw the entries and decided to try and find out what they were for.

    Windows search - No Tangent.exe
    Agent Ransack - No Tangent.exe

Followed the path in My Computer, drilled down to Program Files - Still no Tangent folder.
I did the search in Registry Editor and all three ST6Unst's were for Karen's Power Tools (3 tools that I have installed).

Curiosity killed the cat, Satisfaction brought him back. I am satisfied because of you.

    Thank you very much.

    Gloria,

Tangent was just an example - it is a program that happens to be installed on MY computer, not on yours!
As you have found, the instances on YOUR computer were for applications from Karen's PowerTools.

Thank you, I understand why I couldn't find it. I thank you again for your information.
