Slow Find Box (Word XP (2002) SP3)

I've just started using my old version of Word on a Dell XPS M1530 laptop running Vista. The Find box, which I use a great deal, opens much more slowly than I've been used to under Win XP, and part of the box is left on screen when I close Find (until I shift position in the text on screen). The problem does not arise in the other Office programs.

The laptop has 2MB RAM, 7200rpm hard disk, T9300 CPU and 256MB 8600M GT graphics and seems pretty nippy in other respects. Anyone have any ideas why this aspect of Word has become so flow, in particular I would have expected the 8600M GT graphics to be up to the job?

I don't know why the Find dialog opens slowly. You might try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.

About the dialog remaining on screen: have you checked the NVidia website for updates to the video driver? Drivers are still being tweaked for Windows Vista.
