Outlook 2007 Reading Pane (Outlook 2007.)

Up until a month or so ago I could hi-light text in the Reading Pane and copy it to the clipboard. Now I can't. All I see the the hand cursor icon. In order to select any text I must Edit the Message.

Is there some setting that I somehow screwed up? This is a real pain in the behind.

    Thanks for any clues,
    Roger Thornton

From Tip 389: Pan or Select:

Outlook 2007's reading pane allows you to "pan" around the message and you have panning enabled. Click on the little hand above the scrollbar along the right edge to toggle it off and on. When it's toggled off you'll be able to select and copy text.

    Hans,

You're a lifesaver. I guess I must have clicked that hand icon without knowing it. It was a pain to have to go into the edit message mode to hi-lite & copy something from a message.

    Thanks again,
    Roger.

Now you've got me really puzzled. I read this post without a clue to what it is referring to. I searched all over my installation of Outlook 2007 and all through the help files and could find no reference to a hand icon or to panning. Is this feature only in some installations? Where do I look for such a thing?

I don't have Outlook 2007 myself, so I have no idea - it was just something I found using Google. Perhaps someone who has Outlook 2007 can help.

    I just found this:

The panning hand in Outlook will only show up if Tablet PC support is installed on the computer. I have had a few issues with a Wacom tablet, Vista pen input and all that stuff, so my panning hand got screwed up.

Regardless, you can turn off the panning hand by pressing "Esc" while the hand is active. The cursor will return to normal selection mode.

    HTH.
