FREE Picture in Picture movie editing software

I am looking for some FREE software which will allow me to add various backgrounds and images to an avi video file, so that l can replace the original background it was filmed on.

I am not sure if ZS4 will do what you want, I am pretty useless with any graphic/movie programs, but this ticks 2 of the boxes in your subject line 'Free' and 'Picture in Picture'
