    Fonts - Changing Pt Size (Word 2000 (Office 2000))

    <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15> I do a great deal of work with persons with disabilities, including many who are blind or visually impaired. Currenly, I am doing a series of workshops and providing each participant with a notebook of materials (50 pages).

    Most of the materials are in 12 pt type with adjustments for headings, sub-headings, etc. However, several persons with visual impairments have requested large print versions which I am happy to provide.

    Clearly, I can go through the various documents and change the print size, ie. 12pt to 16 pt, by "selecting all" and making the change. However, I'm wondering if there is a macro or some other way of making the change that will result in not only changing the major parts of text, but also change the headings, etc. so that they appear in a larger print size in the same proportion as in the original document.

    Hope this makes sense. Any ideas?

    You can do that with a Find/Replace.In your "Find" box, click on the "More" button. Click on the "Format", Font, and select just a size. Do the same for replace, but with a different size.

    To automate that, just record into a macro and play back.

    Another way - without a macro is to use the keys:

    Ctrl-A (select the whole document)
    Ctrl-] ( this increases the font size by one point, hold the keys down and watch it grow)
    If it is too big Ctrl-[ shrinks fonts in the same manner

    I hope this helps

    Dave,

    Geoff and Kieran's suggestions should work fine, but if you've got your heart set on making all of the changes proportional, you could use a macro like this:

    <pre>Public Sub ChangeAllFontSizes()
    'Gary Frieder
    'Purpose: change the font of each paragraph by a proportional amt.
    'Assumes: no paragraph has mixed font sizes to begin with
    'Side-effect: fractional font sizes get rounded down to the nearest whole number
    Dim aPara As Paragraph
    Dim sngFontSize As Single
    Dim intAdjFontSize As Integer

    For Each aPara In ActiveDocument.Paragraphs
    sngFontSize = aPara.Range.Font.Size
    intAdjFontSize = GetAdjustedFontSize(sngFontSize)
    aPara.Range.Font.Size = intAdjFontSize
    Next 'aPara
    End Sub
    '====================
    Public Function GetAdjustedFontSize(sngSize As Single) As Integer
    GetAdjustedFontSize = Int(sngSize * 1.5)
    End Function
    </pre>

    Dave,

    Isn't this what styles are for?

    Create a second version of the style sheet, with exactly the same styles, but redefined to format all the text and headings in appropriate sizes for the intended readership.

    Then, for your large-print versions of the documents, take a copy of the original document and merge in the styles from your new style sheet.

    Thanks Robin. You are probably right, but style sheets is one area of Word that I've never really explored. Guess now is a good time to start. I'll give it a go.

    Gary,

    Nah, don't have my heart set on using a macro, but I'm always open to trying one IF its the best way to go. I just thought that since I may be encountering this particular need on a regular basis, a macro might be something to consider.

    I'm always amazed that there is usually several ways to get a task accomplished -- some more simple than others.

    Thanks for the macro. I'll give it a try also.

    Thanks Kieran. A keyboard shortcut that I never use and had forgotten.
