    A matter of Class

It was not often that you saw Professor Brown of the Magic Forest University looking flustered.

"Oh my, oh my, I have to work this out other Al Bear will have a right go at me!"

It appears that Prof. Brown has got her sums wrong, maths never being her strong point. It appears that it was her children, Pat and Chris, first day at University. On being asked how it went.

    Pat said "S'alright"
    Chris said "So so"
Prof Brown asked "What was the problem, I thought you would be at least excited a little"
"Weeell 12/17 of the others were female" said Pat
"Really? I found that 5/7 of the others were female!" said Chris

So here is the conundrum, how many males and females were in Chris and Pat's new class and what are the genders of Pat and Chris?

2nd edit, re-multiplied, correctly this time, I might add, but too late!

140 students in the class; 85 female, 55 male; Pat is female, Chris is male
    BAH.....I can't multiply!!! 17 X 7 <> 139, but = 119. Paul obviously can. It is 120 students with 85 female and 35 male!!

    Hi Paul/Gary

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I was just looking out over the day to see if a "discussion" would start over the differing answers <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
<img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17>...and to see if Hans was going to answer as it is very rare for him not to answer <img src=/S/innocent.gif border=0 alt=innocent width=20 height=20>

I can see that Gary has been offering a couple of answers and a few edits but his last edit came in after Paul's so I am stuck between a rock and hard place, therefore there is only one thing to do, award you both with a prize, Paul you get 2 x [choccy bars] for being first to offer a correct answer and Gary, you get 1 x [choccy bar] for perseverance.
