    Windows Live Search

I was led to Live Search by a web page that appeared when I opened IE 7. I didn't know anything about it but it might be useful while doing web searches.

I would like the opinions of other users on this search, I doubt it can be as effective as Google Search, my default search engine.

It is Microsoft's search engine which is trying to compete with Google. It has been around for a couple of years.
I use both, but, true I use Google first and most of the time.

Live Search has a very long way to go to out search Google. I will give it a spin and see what it can or cannot do. Windows is using IE 7 to advertise it's wares, this was the first time I saw one of their 'ads.'

    Thanks Dave, for the information.

    Re: Windows Live Search

Microsoft continues to improve Live Search results but it is not considered Googles equal by most people. Most importantly from the MS viewpoint they remain mired a distant third in search behind Google & Yahoo. The only way they are using IE7 to advertise anything is on the initial run of IE7. Once you've set your search preference IE7 will honor it. You may have stumbled across a web page that is touting Live Search but that is a Microsoft advertising effort not IE7 pushing anything. Micorosft's advertising is not different than anyone else is doing in promoting their browser, search, etc.

Where will I find how to set my search preferences? I've viewed all of the Internet Options and can't find it anywhere. I know it must be somewhere, but it eludes me.

Do you have a "Search" box in the upper right corner of IE?
If so click the drop down list and see what is there.

    Re: Windows Live Search

I see the answer I asked Joe about. The search box listed: Google Default (which was checked), and Find on this Page: Find More Providers and Change Search Defaults. Since my default search was set, I don't understand how I got that Windows message. But, it's not a biggie, so I will forget about it.

Thanks for showing me where it was.

My homepage is: msnbc.msn.com. Oh boy, you're going to say that is why I got the message, aren't you?

Now why couldn't I figure that out for myself? Don't answer that question.
