    Compatibility 2007 to 2003 (2007)

We are in the planning stages of converting from Lotus Notes to Outlook. We would like to move to Outlook 2007, but we will not be installing the rest of Office 2007. Office XP is installed on most of our 700 computers at this time. The remainder of the computers have Office 2003. Our concerns are the compatibility between Office XP/2003 and Outlook 2007.

Are there any known (unknown by MS) issues that we need to be aware of?

Should we update every computer to Office 2003 to lesson the impact?

Is there anyone with experience with this issue?

IMO, if you can you should update all to Office 2007. Sure, there is some learning curve but you'll be better off in the long run. I don't think the learning curve is that great either. Once people get used to 2007 they'll love it. If you have some people who just can't (or won't) deal with the Ribbon UI search the Lounge for addins to restore the 2003 menu structure.

We agree that installing all of Office 2007 would be ideal, but budget-wise that is not going to happen this year.

The budget includes changing from the Domino server to Exchange, converting emails, etc., and training staff in Outlook. Next year the rest of Office 2007 is in the planing for installation. We are just hoping that there are no issues that we will find by using Outlook 2007 with older versions of Office.

The one thing that stands out for me is that the "Protected Sharing" of information will work only if you are using the new format that is in 2007.
So if the company plans on relying this built in protection, the whole Office package needs to be used. One needs to look at ALL of the sharing tools within Office 2007 and what affect the older versions have on it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I have not heard of "Protected Sharing" before. What is this feature and why should we use it?
