    Quickest Scanner

    Hello all.

Can any member recommend a high speed scanner to purchase?
We are thinking of scanning sales invoices, delivery notes, basically hundreds of files per month and with a normal scanner this is impossible.
We don't want to spend thousands of pounds, but don't mind paying if you know where I'm coming from.
Hopefully we can convert to PDF format and if the scanner had a paper feeder, that would be great.

    Thanks

    How fast is high speed? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

We have (I think) a HP Scanjet 8200 Digital Flatbed Scanner at work which I can highly recommend. Single button scan-to-pdf with a sheet feeder - it will even scan both sides of a document if you want. Not every document likes to be scanned - you have to be careful to put previously-stapled papers documents in non-stapled end in first - and there is the flatbed for really tricky stuff. It even works out which way you've put the paper in so it's always the right way up!

Looking at the specs, I'm sure ours is faster so I'll confirm which model it is tomorrow. It seems to do about 10-12 pages a minute at 200DPI which is plenty good enough for archival purposes.

Thank you Leif, I'll investigate the HP now.

    Re: Quickest Scanner

    Hi Dave,

I've just checked and it is an 8250. Scanning a batch of six A4 pages took 20 seconds, but there is extra time for faffing around loading the documents, converting to pdf when scanned, entering a file name for the resulting pdf file, etc. It depends how you plan to do the scanning; if one page at a time, it could be a long process, but processing a batch of papers can be quite fast, relatively speaking!

If you want a really fast scanner, then try one of these.

One of my customers uses them, and it is quite impressive to see both sides of an A4 sheet being scanned in about 1/2 a second.

    Re: Quickest Scanner

We have a Fujitsu Fi-5220C in our office, it seems quick to me. The doc feeder on it allows duplex scanning, i.e. only one pass to capture both sides of a piece of paper., very handy. We bought it to allow us to convert stacks of paper records to PDF files. It's doing the job nicely.

The only gripe I have about this scanner is that, initially, the 'Scan to PDF' option didn't always behave correctly and it would hang trying to open Acrobat 7. I found that adding Distiler to the Startup folder, so that that was loaded before calling running the scanner software, solved the problem.
