Kelly's Korner Question (XP MCE SP2)

I put this in XP since the site in question is devoted to XP and many of us call it out to Loungers in attempting to resolve XP problems.

Does anyone else ever have a problem with Kelly's Korner web page, specifically the Tweaks link on the left? Every once in awhile, like NOW, I can get to her main page and ANY of the supplemental links except the one for Tweaks. When I click that box it results in an empty page. What's so strange is that it doesn't happen all the time. The last time I pointed someone there, that page worked just fine, but that's been some time ago. Even when I enter in my browser the explicit link for the tweaks page, it comes up empty. The funny thing is that the only thing different about each of her pages is the name of the .htm file.

Another oddity is that sometimes it doesn't matter which browser I use, Firefox or IE7, the page comes up empty. That's why I didn't make this post in the Browsers forum. However, it happens that the problem this morning is only with Fx - the page loads OK in IE7 - but it's not always that way. What could possible cause such a strange event?

The URL for the page in question is: XP Tweaks

PS If anyone feels strongly that this should be in the Browsers forum, I'll be happy to move it there.

I have never had problems getting to the XP Tweaks page in IE7, my standard browser. Works fine now too.

I tried in FireFox 2 with the NoScript extension.
    - If I go to Kelly's main page and click Tweaks, I get a blank page. If I temporarily allow scripts, the page remains blank. Refreshing doesn't help.
    - If I restart FireFox, go to Kelly's main page and temporarily allow scripts, then click Tweaks, nothing happens - I remain at the main page. Refreshing doesn't help.
    - If I restart FireFox and go directly to the Tweaks page, I get a blank page. If I then temporarily allow scripts, the Tweaks page loads normally.

    I guess IE will remain my standard browser... <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

I was kinda hoping that another Firefox using Lounger might know of a workaround, but at least you confirm that it isn't just my machine.

I've finally gotten off my duff and sent Kelly an email with the question. I don't know if she'll have time to deal with such trivia, but I can hope...

    Hi Al,
I have seen, from time to time, exactly what you describe for Kelly's Tweak page, using Fx 2. (I never use IE7, just installed it, did some lock downs in settings and keep it updated.)

But I haven't done any "investigation" further than Hans, i.e. allow script in NoScript etc.

    Off-topic: another site
Which reminds me of Paul Thurrott's "SuperSite for Windows". I have had the address: http://www.winsupersite.com/default.asp, in my bookmarks for a very long time.

But from time to time it doesn't load (completely); you get some address: "www.winsupersite.com/RoadBlock/default.asp".

Trying to enable script for winsupersite.com and windowsitpro.com, whatever, does nothing. Since I do know that I surf by white-listing, i.e. scripts are off for all but white listed or temp. enabled by me; and cookies are off for all but white listed or temp. enabled by me, I also try to enable cookies for all. Nothing at SuperSite for Windows. OK, that's the way you like it, fine, I'm not up to playing peekaboo! <img src=/S/nope.gif border=0 alt=nope width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

There was a time, not so far ago, when a simple text page just worked.
