Identify this start up item? (XP Home SP2)

    Edited by HansV to remove HUMONGOUS amount of white space from 1789 x 1186 picture <img src=/S/yikes.gif border=0 alt=yikes width=15 height=15>
PLEASE don't post images larger than 640x480!

Checking msconfig startup items I've got a l3hlr in there (3 times see screen shot) yesterday one of them was l3hlr.exe so I disabled it to see what effect it had on the way things ran but couldn't tell any difference. Now tonight the exe isnt showing.Maybe Im searching in the wrong place but I cant find any reference to this even changing what I assume is the l (ell) to a 1 (one) etc. Any one else come across this?

It would help if you would expand the COMMAND column so we could see WHERE it lives.

I agree with Big Al - presumably you asked the question because Googling for l3hlr on Google produced nothing relevant!

AND, Googling on " 3hlr " produces some hits about magnetic stripe readers, so it's a crap shoot at this time...

Instead of using MSCONFIG ( which is really a troubleshooting tool ) try downloading AUTORUNS which usually gives you much more information about startup files and also gives you the ability to disable and or delete this files in a more direct manner.

I don't know about l3hlr.exe, but the first item in your list, AdStatServ, is apparently an adware program - see for example adstatserv.exe - What is adstatserv.exe?. You should run a thorough scan with an anti-spyware program such as Microsoft's Windows Defender, Ad-Aware and/or Spybot-S&D! (all free).

Re: Identify this start up item? (XP Home SP2)

It's not the numeral 1 (one ) if you compare the 1 in the item a few lines above that listing. Has to be a letter L (ell )

Try expanding the screenshot to show the "location" field in the reg where the partial list shows HKLM/xxx/xxx/common control. maybe that can show a little more?

Just as an info thing, I searched my Folders and the Reg for anything like that and it didn't find anything.
Could be from a prog that is unique to your system OR a piece of malware also?

    Have you tried AUTORUNS yet?

Yipes! how did I miss that? but I regularly run ad aware and spybot and windows defender. Have just done a quick scan with windows defender and it says all is running normally so doesn't seem harmfull. I am now going to do a thorough deep scan with all 3 so that will take a while and see what comes up.

As Hans said, the AdStatServ is malware and IMHO should be removed. I did some Googling around and when nothing turned up for l3hlr or l3hlr.exe I started cutting down the file name and came up with the following from here....
    What we know about HLR.EXE:
The filename HLR.EXE was first seen on Feb 2 2008 in ESTONIA. It has also been seen in the following geographical regions of the Prevx community:
GERMANY on Mar 1 2008 The filename HLR.EXE refers to many versions of an executable program.

The most common file size is 694,784 bytes. But the following file size has also been seen:
656,384 bytes These files have no vendor, product or version information specified in the file header.

I should mention that I know nothing about the Prevx software.

Have run Spybot + Ad Aware + Windows Defender deep scan on all and apart from a few tracking cookies nothing untoward. Autoruns shows the l3hlr but no other info. However I've unchecked it and Adstat and see what happens.
