Animation of a sentence (V2000)

I have been fiddling with a request from a friend to help prepare a slide to present part of a sentence and then have the rest of it appear upon the next mouse click and still be in sentence structure. We want to put several of these sentences on the slide. So for instance one sentence would go like this
1. My name is.......(mouse click).............. Skitterbug.

or may be something like this!
2. My name is ..(mouse click)....Skitterbug....(mouse click).......and I live in ...(mouse click)......Ohio.

I've tried using a table and then inserting a text box into each cell but this is tedious and hard to line up properly. If I enter the information into each table cell without text boxes, I can't seem to animate the individual cells independent of each other so I can make the contents appear with mouse clicks. The table appears with all of the information showing.

I hope I've made my question clear enough so someone can explain if what I am trying to do is possible? And if so, how is it done?

Thanks!

I think you'll have to create a text box for each part. You can use the align and distribute options from Drawing on the Drawing toolbar to assist you in placing the text boxes.

Since receiving your reply, I've tried this method and it does help but it is still tedious. Maybe I'll become more efficient doing it through practice.......... Do any of the newer versions of Power Point make this job any easier?

Thanks

Not as far as I know. You can make a sentence appear word by word, but that's a single animation.

In 2002 onwards you can use an emphasis font colour change to sort of get this effect.

That's clever. I suppose Skitterbug could create a series of slides to create the effect she wants.

Hi John

Thanks for adding this piece of information. I've looked at the instructions but haven't worked on my project for a couple of days. Reason - opening play of golf league! It is raining today so I'll give this a try and see if I can be as successful as others have been. I'm only an intermediate level user with PPT so wish me a lot of luck!

Re: Animation of a sentence (V2000)

I may have that version on a computer I have tucked on the second level of this place! This PC doesn't have it (older copy loaded) because it was given to me by someone who wanted to be rid of it so she could get a laptop. <Lucky me!> There's always the iMac's copy of PPT Version X? But then the thought pops up about the compatibility between PC and Mac applications even though both are by MS.......... Guess I'll start by checking the copy of PPT on the PC upstairs. Thanks for pointing out the version problem. I saw this when I first read your earlier post but managed to forget that vital piece of info between then and now.

Wanted to note this for anyone else who may have PPT X for Mac - It doesn't seem to have the option that is shown in the hints that John linked to. So I'm left with the hope that I have a newer version loaded on the PC upstairs...........

John

I wanted to let you know that this worked very well for what I needed to do! I found a copy of V2002 loaded on my computer upstairs and was able to try this tip! The best part was passing along the knowledge to the person who had asked me for help! It's great to be able to share new techniques.

Thank you very much!
