    AVG Anti-Spyware

I've just visited their website and learned that the subject software and AVG Anti Rootkit are no longer available. They're available only with Commercial installations. I checked because the Anti-Spyware program had disappeared from my system. I had to manually remove the leftover files and folders.

I also have a question about running two anti-virus programs, not at the same time, but having them both on my computer. Is it safe to use both individually, one at a time?

    Re: AVG Anti-Spyware

Most anti-virus programs have a realtime component that protects you whenever Windows is running. You should never have the realtime components of two different anti-virus programs running at once. It will lead to conflicts and degrade the performance of your computer. Anti-virus programs don't like having their realtime components turned off, for obvious reasons; they'll probably keep on nagging you if you do. So I don't think that installing two such programs is a good idea.

Edited by HansV to reduce screenshot in size (max 640x480)

The antispyware component is part of the new <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> AVG 8.0 but the antirootkit is only in the commercial version. There are other free antirootkit alternatives though.

    Re: AVG Anti-Spyware

I had no problems with AVG and Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus scanning my email. But after the information received from this board, AVG was removed.

I thank you for your interest.

    Re: AVG Anti-Spyware

AVG is out of the picture, Spyware Doctor with Antivirus is my choice. If I'm not mistaken, I think it has antirootkit included.
