clear popup error msg (excel 2002 SP3 (XP) )

I have inherited a suite of excel files.

Each time the files close an error message displays. looking for a particular file that doesn't exist.

Ive looked in add-ins and macros and none exist for this file.

How do I clear this popup? I obviously have to break the link to "analyst.xla"

    many thanks diana

Look for a Workbook_Close event procedure in the ThisWorkbook module of the workbook.

    hey Hans

Yes that was the first thing I did, look for an autoclose event or module, however I've looked in this workbook module and no events or code exists at all? <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

Could it be a formula in one of the cells?

Would you like me to attach the file?

I didn't look carefully enough - it looks like it has to do with CF KPI. Is that a worksheet? If so, is there code in its worksheet module?

Oh, and yes, it would be useful if you attached (a sanitized copy of) the workbook.

    Hi Diana

Have you tried "Ctrl + Pause" while the pop-up is visible?

There's a defined name Auto_close that refers to the analyst.xla add-in. To remove this name:
    - Open the workbook.
    - Select Insert | Name | Define...
    - Select Auto_close and click Delete.
The error message shouldn't appear any more.

Note: there's another defined name PGMP that refers to a range in an external workbook. You'll have to decide whether it should be kept - it might be used in the "real" workbook.

    Hi Diana
You have a Defined Name "Auto_Close" which refers to:

    ='C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11LIBRARYanalyst.xla'!AnalystSheetClos e

    That's the culprit.

You asked in a PM what the purpose of such a defined name could be.

If you create a defined name Auto_Open that refers to =macroname, the macro macroname will automatically be run when the workbook is opened. Similarly for a defined name Auto_Close. See the attached example workbook.

This is a third way to run code automatically when the workbook is opened or closed. The others are creating a Workbook_Open or Workbook_Close event procedure in ThisWorkbook, and creating a macro named Auto_Open or Auto_Close in a standard module.
