    1394 port dropped (SP2)

I have what is apparently the problem described in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 1394 Storage Device Does Not Work -- When I have two devices daisy-chained to the 1394 port of my computer (even after removing one), the computer (HP Pavilion 5000 laptop) sometimes no longer recognizes the port.

I have faithfully installed upgrades using Windows Update, but this problem persists. I see that Windows XP SP3 is supposed to fix the problem, but also that it was supposed to have been fixed in SP1. My computer indicates that it is running XP SP2. What should I do to fix this problem?

Sorry John, I don't know the answer to your question, but I did fix the link to make it easier for Loungers to see your research. Good luck...

I saw several 1394 related fixes in XP SP-3 but nothing that appears to be specifically for the issue you have. That being said, since there are several 1394 patches I'd recommend you install SP-3 and see what happens.

NOTE: take the usual precautions before installing a service pack - backup anything important.
