Re: XML content management systems (Word 2007)

    Welcome back to Woody's Lounge!

I have move your question from the Word forum to the Other Software Applications forum, for a content management system is a separate piece of software that doesn't run in Word, even if Word is used to author the content.

XML content management systems (Word 2007)

Hello all, I am a returning member to the list and I have an XML question.

Issue: I am looking/evaluating XML content management systems for my company. Currently, we work in Word and export to pdf via Acrobat and HTML Help via WebWorks. Our current document management system consists of a well structured folder hierarchy (no external links).
Prerequisites: Content will continue to be written in Word (upgrading to 2007). The system will also be used by non-Word experts (i.e. people other than tech. writers); this means that easy-of-use is a must. The management system should be as transparent to the writer as possible.
Environment: We will be updating from Office 2003, Windows XP to Office 2007, Vista in the near future.

If you have any recommendations or suggestions, please reply with the details.

    Thank you in advance
    Yaacov

More information would be helpful. Can you describe what you mean by content management - simple check out/in, workflow approvals, deployment to some application, etc.? What about your environment - What server software?, domain based?

Re: XML content management systems (Word 2007)

We are looking more for a content manager and not a document manager (XML or OOXML).
Key would be the ability to share blocks of information by linking them in multiple documents. Updating and version control would be performed in one source only.
In terms of the environment, we are not sure yet.

The only types of products that come to mind for managing snippets (that would be team-oriented) are document assembly tools and source code management systems.

What do you mean by "document assembly tools"? Can you give me an example.
