    Fomulas do NOT work (2003)

I have a large spreadsheet that was functioning properly on Friday... Now when I enter a formula in cells the cell continues to display "=7500/12" instead of doing the math. Without ridding myself of other formulas that worked AND/OR clearing the data itself, any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

First, make sure that the Formulas check box in the View tab of Tools | Options has not been ticked. If it has, clear the check box.

Next, make sure that the cells haven't been formatted as Text in the Number tab of Format | Cells... If they have, set the format to General or to another appropriate format.

Hans, thanks. It was the formula box that was checked. What does it mean when it is checked or unchecked?

If the Formulas check box is ticked, Excel will display formulas in the worksheet instead of their results. You can use this for debugging purposes, or if you want to document the formulas you used (you can print the worksheet with formulas displayed). Under normal circumstances the check box should be clear.
