Paint Shop Pro 10

I'm getting ready to install my copy of PSP 10 in Vista, continuing my transition, so I went looking to make sure I won't have any trouble. During my search, I found this site that has an additional PSP patch (update) that I didn't know about and Corel's dandy little runtime nag has never come up with. They're constantly after me to come up to the latest and I don't need it, so I stick with version 10, aka PSP X.

As anyone who uses PSP 10 will know by now, there have been patches around for a LONG time, updating the product to 10.01 then 10.02 and finally 10.03 and the doggone patches have to be run sequentially. Now comes this one to version 10.10 and it too must be run from a product that has already been patched to 10.03

I haven't done the deed yet, but here this morning's link: Download the free Paint Shop Pro 10.10 patch (includes Vista compatibility update)

I have downloaded and installed this and all is running just fine.
It appears that Corel does not want version 10 users to get this patch, but would rather have them upgrade to 11.
Why not sell a upgrade in lieu of a patch!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Paint Shop Pro 10

Since I was a few steps behind you Dave, it took me a bit longer, but I'm now up with PSP 10.10 also. I had a bit of a hassle with the base version 10. It kept stopping at the serial number (key) screen and wouldn't accept my key until I opened my browser, went to the My Account page at Corel and logged in. Then the install of base plus four patches went just fine.

And you're right on the motivation. During the installation of all of this, that doggone nag screen popped up wanting me to move to version 11. It doesn't happen all that often or I would look for a way to blow it away.

Also, when I started the initial install, I got a popup from Vista (I think) saying something about an application that doesn't support my (Aero) color scheme so it was changing to Windows Vista Basic. When I got all done with all the patching, I checked and my screen is still saying Aero, NOT Basic, so I don't know if that was one of the things fixed in the 10.10 patch or not.

Hi Al,

I decided to add PSP 10.10 update to my archives, even though I am running with PSP X2. I noticed that your link went to a software patch site which does not appear to be linked to Corel. I found a Corel site link. Just in case you have a problem with the one from softwarepatch, here's the Corel link reference. I did download both updates and they are the same from a size point of view.

Cheers, Bob
Regards,
Bob

Heck, I'm on a roll... if anyone reads this thread and wants a PSP 10.10 update in a language other than English, try this:

Go to Corel
Select Support
Select Knowledge Base
Under Answers, select Paint Shop Pro, then Paint Shop Pro X and search for Vista
Select article 760272
Sources: Corel Web Site

Have fun...
Regards,
Bob

So Bob; how does PSP X2 compare to PSP 10?
Is PSP X2 worth the $50 to upgrade, valid until midnight this Sunday?

Cheers

Re: Paint Shop Pro 10

Hi Ken,

I updated to PSP X August 2005 and it worked OK in the Windows XP environment... but was not Vista compliant (until a late 10.10 / buried patch). Considering that I was moving to Vista in 2007 I upgraded to PSP XI March 2007 which had a Vista patch. Albeit PSP XI was supposed to be Vista compliant, with the patch, I found it a bit unstable. Things settled down for the Vista environment with the release of PSP X2 which I acquired Setember 2007 for $60... but that included a t-shirt .

So, if you in, or going to move to Vista, I could recommend X2.

Considering I sometimes forget what I had for supper last night, it is hard for me to remember the differences between X and X2. However, here's a link to a PDF that might provide some info for you.

What I do know, is that I like the look, feel and features of X2.

Cheers, Bob
Regards,
Bob
