Colors (Ultimate)

This is really embarrassing... ... but I hate to start screwing things up with trial and error messing to find one thing. Most of what I'm running with so far is default as installed, but this black or grey in the task bar is a bit depressing and I'd like to change it. Does anyone know fer sure which one this (these two) are, please?

You probably need third party software such as Stardock.com - WindowBlinds (shareware)or Stardock.com - ObjectDesktop (also shareware). Or know how to make a theme of your own.

Agreed! I've been running Stardock's "ObjectDesktop" - Windowblinds for years love it. Although I hate to admit it but albeit the myriad excellent windowblinds that are available and which I have hundreds, after switching to Vista Ultimate, the default Aero theme and its several color variations is the one I keep coming back to. Of course, on XP that's an entirely different matter. The default XP theme is horrid and I use Windowblinds 100% of the time along with IconPackager, WindowFX and several other programs included in ObjectDesktop.

LogonVista is also great. I created my own logon screen and it always gets a chuckle.

Re: Colors (Ultimate)

Thanks to BOTH you and Joe for the input. I'll check out WindowBlinds - I've heard of it for years and never had a need. I don't usually get all worked up about this "eye candy" stuff, so I don't do much with it. I didn't realize that it's part of the Aero Theme deal. I'll do a little more browsing around in Vista to see if I can stay with Aero and find some other combinations but it's NOT a big deal. I won't get a headache over it.

Hey Jeff, is that my "Uncle Albert" in your graphic? Do you mind a tutorial on how to do it? That's a hilarious screen and my son is the only other one to use my computer. I'd like to make something up that would tickle him or the two grandkids. Good job!

Edited later: I found the LogonVista at Stardock so I think I Googled my own answer. So, this is probably a "nevermind" edit. Thanks...

Al, it's my understanding that if you are using the Aero theme, you cannot use "Appearance Settings". These apparently only apply to Classic color themes. Have you tried right clicking the desktop > Personalize > Window Color and Appearance? I personally like the Graphite color (with some transparency), however other colors are available.

Cheers,
Regards,

No, I haven't tried too much of anything, but I will during my Vista sessions today. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Colors (Ultimate)

I just gave that a shot and tried a few other colors. The top bar in that window shows what I'm selecting nicely but it doesn't seem to do much of anything to the color of the task bar. I'll keep trying though. Thanks again for the tip.

You will need to push the intensity slider up to max and use a bright color to see any difference. Obviously MS wanted to limit experimentation here

It is NOT designed to do much. If you select RED and slide the slider to right you will see how much is added to the Taskbar.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
