    [free] laplink

As a 25th anniversary promotion, LaplinkŪ Software - Official Site - The global leader in PC connectivity software is giving away its PCMover software <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> for ONE day only (today). NOTE: the site is really slammed.

    Re: [free] LapLink PCmover

    Thanks, Joe.

Good grief, I see what you meant! If you thought the Lounge was slow...!
It took me about an hour to get anything out of the website. You have to jump through several hoops, one of which is registration (but it doesn't seem to make use of the email address you have to reply in order to email you anything).

The download is 13,734 kB - and this takes an equivalently-long time to complete. Now to find a PC to move...

    Thanks Joe!!

Got my copy without any waiting around. Also, there is a notice that they are extending their offer for an additional 24 hours due to the overload, hehe.

This was a hit, and I bought the works complete with freebies. For the software nostalgia gang, LapLink was arguably the most powerful utility on the block before everything became so easy and everyone so wired. Laptops no longer cost as much as a car but LapLink still has a niche, and this bundle was irresistible.

I hope it works better than the version I tired 18 months ago or so.

Also, I hope you used a disposable email address. I get regular Laplink generated spam on my old Yahoo email account despite trying to unsubscribe a number of times.

    Re: [free] laplink

I have had versions since Windows 95, the particular deal in the recent offer requires that you agree to receive offers from LapLink (but I have never had anything I regarded as Spam), and for thirty bucks the bundle included LapLink Gold 2008, Lavasoft File Shredder, PC Mover, and Acronis True Image 10.

You might want to try to track down the source of that spam, if it really is spam. These are all reputable companies.

The spam is directly form Laplink, often a "message" from the CEO offering almost free software or upgrades.

I don't know what marketing genius came up with that clever means of alienating customers or potential customers, but I had an identical experience with a different major company, and you have all of my sympathy. In my case I already owned the software and only wanted to be notified of updates. My defrag software is the current pain, with ads for software I already have licences for. I guess all we can do is filter it.
