    SYSICLOG.TXT (Vista Business)

    Hi all,

I have this file "c:sysiclog.txt" that grows pretty quickly and I have no idea what program or service is doing this logging. I deleted the file, and this is is what just was logged to it. Does anyone know anything about this, or how I can go about disabling the logging?

    Thanks,

Very little on a sysiclog.txt - Google Search about the file. A couple of questions and no good answers. You can run something like the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> Process Monitor to find out what process is updating the file.

BTW, do you have a Lenovo/IBM PC? That seems to be the common threme in the few threads that I found.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did the same google search, same results. Yes, it's a Lenovo Thinkpad T61, but in chasing those few links, results were inconclusive ... nobody knew the answer. I'm not certain that it's a Lenovo log, but it would not surprise me in the least1

I'll try the process monitor and see what it tells me. I'll post back after I run it.

Well, i ran it. Lots and lots (tens of thousands of processes) running, did a search for sysiclog.txt and nothing was found.

I'm suspecting malware or a virus, time for a scan.

Are you sure the file was being accessed during the time you ran Procmon? Did you try looking in Tools | File summary? You could also try "Options | Enable boot logging" to see if it is captured during system startup.

    Re: SYSICLOG.TXT (Vista Business)

Could not find anything related to the txt file. But did find a reference to the trustedinstaller.exe app that is posting to the txt file. Here's a cut-n-paste from my WinPatrol window:

    "Vista Package Manager TRUSTEDINSTALLER.EXE

Trustedinstaller.exe is a Windows Vista file that enables installation, modification, and removal of Windows updates and optional components. If this service is disabled, you may not be able to install or uninstall Windows updates. This file installs as part of Windows Package Manager. You'll find more information at location."

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers, Bob

    Re: SYSICLOG.TXT (Vista Business)

Thank-you for this. I was dubbing around in my new Vista last week, and somehow got logging started for that, and did not realize that's what I did. That's why I didn't know where it came from. On joeperez' advice i ran process monitor, but found nothing on this file, so all I can figure is that I disabled the right logging setup.

I don't know, but it seemed to really slow my system down a lot every few minutes, and I didn't know why.

I found a new (to me) excellent antispyware program. I ran my two old faithful programs, Ad-aware and Spybot, and cleaned things out. In my searches for an answer, I found a free for home use program called 'superantispyware'. (You can read about it and download it here: superantispyware). But it did find a hijacker and a trojan that the first two didn't find. Now I have a new favorite.
