Formatting not 'taking' on first running of query (Access 2000)

If I run a query base on a made table (from a make table query), the formatting does not take effect until I go to the detail view and then rerun the query. If I use an append query to fill the table and then run the query the formatting take effect on the initial running. I've set the format for the field in the make query to Currency, but the field in the made table has no formatting.

    Is this typical?

You have very little control over the format of the fields in a table that is created by a make-table query.
For that reason I prefer to use an existing table, and first run a delete query to delete all existing records, then run an append query to add the records I want. This way, the formatting of the destination table remains intact.
