    Autonumber (XP)

I have an auto number set as a table key. When I add a new record the autonumber does not advance it stays as the (autonumber). If I try and put anything into any field on the page I get the following error shown in the pic. But if I go to a record where the autonumber is filled in everything works ok.

Could you post a stripped down copy of your database? See <post#=401925>post 401925</post#> for instructions.

I tested each of the tables in your database that has an AutoNumber field (except for the linked ones, of course, since I can't view those).
Typing something in any of them caused a new AutoNumber value to appear.
Where did you encounter the problem, i.e. in which table, query or form?

If you're on a new record in the main form, you *must* enter something in the main form before you enter anything in one of the subforms. The only field where you can enter something in the main form is the Closing Date field.

    Re: Autonumber (XP)

Apparently you haven't looked at the version that I posted in your previous thread. The "NCR Header - Main Entry Tab" subform is superfluous since it is based on the same table as the main form. So it would be better to place the controls from "NCR Header - Main Entry Tab" directly on the NCR header tab of the main form instead of in a subform. That would give you more controls in which you can enter something.

Apparently you didn't paste them into the tab page.

Sorry I am getting a little tired... I am so glad you are so patient... works fine now. and now I see what you were talking about... I though it was because of the fact that I had removed all the un needed stuff out to make it smaller... thanks againg for all your help...
