File selection (2007 SR-1)

I have a saved Outlook file from my desktop computer that I have recovered from backup (using ShadowProtect, which is a success now that I really need it), and I have a second user for the present computer to use that Outlook with. It is over 750 MB in size and I don’t want to make a mistake (although I now have more than one copy of it).

I had it in the proper folder in that user’s APPDATA and set up Outlook for the user, only to find that this gave the new user a new, current, Outlook.pst called Outlook1.pst. It works properly and I have received one message, but the mountain of precious data in the other is what I want to access. What is the proper way in which to correct this?

I have found it better to let Outlook create the file it wants to create and then import data from the old file. That way you still have the old file in case something flaky does happen. You can keep the old file until you feel it is not needed anymore.

The old file was the full Outlook.pst file, and not an import/export file. Does that make any difference?

You can simply open the old .pst file from the File menu, and either leave it like that - you can access everything in it - or copy the items you want from the old file to the new file, then close the old file again.

Thanks. I remembered that you could have more than one PST file for Outlook and select it for viewing after I posted. There is a Lockergnome thread HERE that may be of interest.

I cut and pasted into a text file. Before that, I couldn't read it either.
