Fire Fox inaccessible (XP Proff. SP2)

Hi guys, all of a sudden I am unable to access the web via Fire Fox though I can access my email account and Internet Explorer which is what I have resorted to in order to access this forum. Despite there being nothing open on the taskbar, [see attachment] it shows Firefox as running but not responding, is this a common known fault or one that has just emmerged? I see the prompt indicates a close down may solve the problem but are there some tweeks that need to be done to prevent this happening again. Regards S Fox.

Click the "Processes" tab in Task Manager (as per the message), select the "firefox.exe" process (under "Image Name"), click "End process" (bottom right hand corner), then "Yes", and you should be able start FF again.

Crops up once in a blue moon. Too infrequent (for me) to worry about chasing down the cause, but would be nice to find out.

And if you haven't already done so, keep in mind that a re-boot is often the solution to something strange that happens with a computer. Close everything and boot. Sometimes a little "garble" or a memory "leak" or some other program fluke will make the PC misbehave and at least booting it will see if a fresh start still brings the same problem.

Also see Firefox is already running but is not responding.
The most common cause for this error is the profile folder (location where Firefox stores user data) being locked, the above article explains how to solve that and gives other possible causes.

Thanks Tony - I've saved that page in my FF program folder. Now I'll at least be able to check for a few specific causes the next time that the blue moon pops up.

Thank you gentlemen, as I mentioned, I noticed the prompt suggested a reboot could rectify the problem but just wondered what might have caused it and how it could maybe be prevented in the future. A reboot did in fact restore the status quo but into the bargain I now have the page pointed to by TonyE, thanks, and thanks again to those who took the time to dig me out of yet another pitfall. Till the next time....... cheers. SF
