    Fonts (All)

    Hi

I have a document that uses fonts to display words in another language. Now, I need to send this doc to someone else who needs to view it. I have checked the Options|Save|Embed TrueType fonts option. Saved the doc and then e-mailed it. But when the person at the other end opens the doc - it is gobledigook to him. It seems the fonts have not been embeded. Can anybody help with this please? I am tearing my hair out & need to sort this out pronto. BTW: Word 2002 is used to save the original doc.

Please please help. Need to move forward now.

    Thanks.
    Thanks.

Can't you convert the document to PDF and send the PDF file?

What fonts are they? Are they really TrueType fonts? Can the other person not install the same fonts?

Hans - can't PDF. Document may have to edited at the other end.

William - definitely TT Font. I have checked the file. It is called MGSG063.ttf (within C:WINDOWSFONTS). I thought, by selecting the 'Embed TrueType font' option would sort out all problems but not so.
    Thanks.

Can't you use Arial Unicode? It contains a very extensive set of characters for other languages, and it comes with Microsoft Office, so it's likely that the recipients also have it.

Hans - I am using the fonts given to me by someone else and producing a document in another language. As you say, I may have to explore some other way of achieving the same thing. It's just that the 'embed TTF' doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for thinking about a solution at least.
    Thanks.

    Re: Fonts (All)

I don't know why embedding TrueType fonts doesn't work - when I turn on this option, the file size of a document increases significantly, so it appears to do something. But unfortunately I have no way of testing on another computer that has different fonts installed.

If you have been given the font(s), you might send them on to the persons who have to work with the document and ask them to install it.

BTW I can't find any reference to the font that you mentioned.

    Thanks Hans.

Yes, the embed TTF option increases the file size significantly but no changes when doc viewed at the other end.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I will send the font with the doc and ask them to install them at the other end (which is actually at the other end of the world from where I am).

The font was given to me by someone so I don't have more info on it.

Thanks for all your help. I am going by your second suggestion and see how it pans out.

    Robie.
    Thanks.
