    Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

When I send Email to multiple addresses I always designate the First one as "TO" and the rest as "BCC". Why is that they all get the address of the First one?? How can I correct this problem??

"To" always sent to everyone, you need to put everyone in the BCC if you do NOT want anyone to see who you sent the email to.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Some spam filters will classify mail without an address in the To: box as spam. To avoid this, you can enter your own e-mail address in the To: box.
Or even better, create a contact with display name Undisclosed Recipients and your own e-mail address as address. Enter this contact in the To: box.

Nice one Hans <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15> I have been using my "sacrificial" address for the "To:", but your "Undisclosed Recipients" approach adds a touch of class to the exercise. The "display name" could also describe the "bcc:" distribution (list), while still keeping the recipient addresses confidential.

    Re: Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

I can't speak to Outlook, Outlook Express or other email clients, so it may be a function of Thunderbird that when I send an email to ALL "bcc" addressees, the undisclosed recipients thing is "automatically" done. I've been aware of it for a long time and I just don't know what causes it. I don't have a contact like that in my address book. So, TB users might want to test it...

    Re: Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

    Al,
When I send mail using Thunderbird to bcc: addresses and do not specify a To: recipient I get mixed results. Mail sent to Thunderbird accounts have undisclosed recipients in the To: area. On some other e-mail systems the mail is received with an empty To box which means that it may get classified as spam. I have not explored this fully.

That oughta cinch it then: Hans' suggestion to PaJan, seconded by Tim, sounds like an even better, more certain thing to do. I think I'll add one too... Now all I need is some non-TB recipients to try it out on. (just kidding)

OK my friend... comin' at ya as I write... Let us know if you see the "undisclosed" thingie.

Added Later: The clip shows what I received as one of the two addressees. Let's see what Chris gets. I have not yet added Hans' suggested workaround to my address book.

There wasn't anything listed for the To: field, but otherwise, it matched exactly what you have posted Al.

    Re: Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

Thanks Chris. BUT, that matches what Paul said about an empty TO: box, so I guess it WOULD be better to add an address book entry. OK, I've beaten this one to death for now...

    Re: Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

This is good information and may explain why some recipients occasionally do not receive my emails. Just to satisfy my curiosity, Chris: in which field was your email address displayed if not the To: field and what email client do you use?

    Cheers,
    Regards,
    PaulB

    Re: Email addresses (Thunderbird 2.0.0.14)

Well now Paul, you've got me on a goose chase I think!

I used the Yahoo webmail client to retrieve that email from BigAl. I did not see my name / email / etc... listed anywhere in the "standard header" provided by the interface. I also checked the "full header", and also found that my information was not displayed.

I think I know where you're going with this, however I don't see where (other than knowing how it was sent) my information has been recorded.
