    TOC Page Numbers (2007)

    Hello,
I have a document with several sections. For each section a letter comes before the page number. Is it possible to create a Table of Contents that will include the letter and the page number?

    Any help would be apprecitated.

    Thanks!

How has the letter been added? If manually, it'll be hard to get it into the TOC. If it is a chapter "number" it should appear in the TOC automatically.

The letter was added manually. I don't know how to give it a chapter number but could the same thing not by done by using fields? How do I give it a chapter number though?

    Thanks!

You need to have added outline numbering to the Heading 1 style; you can use A, B, C etc. as numbering style.

You can then select Insert | Page Numbers > Format... to format the page numbers and include the chapter number - see screenshot below. Click OK to close the Format Page Number dialog, then Close (not OK) to close the Page Numbers dialog.

I have attached a sample of what I am trying to do. The page numbering as you can see is a bit odd (not my choice) i.e. T-1, G-1, PP-1 etc. I have been unable to get it to work correctly using chapter numbers.

    Thanks,

I don't think there is a way to do this automatically. You could do the following:
    - Wait until the document has become definitive.
    - Create a backup copy.
    - Select the table of contents.
    - Press F9 to update it; select the option to update the entire table.
    - Press Ctrl+Shift+F9 to convert the TOC to text.
    - Press Ctrl+Space to remove character formatting.
    - Add the appropriate letters manually.
Not an attractive option, but it's the price you pay for using an illogical numbering system.

I totally agree with the illogical numbering system. The problem now is trying to get them to change their way of thinking (and doing things) which as I'm sure you know, can be even harder.

Thanks for your help though, and a definitive arguement (lol).

    Good to Go!
