Unable to open a Word document (Word 2007)

I have a file that will open if Word is already open, but will not open any other way. Why would this happen and how can I fix it? Thank You.

Try this:
- Quit all instances of Word.
- Select Start | Run... (this is for Windows XP, it's different for Windows Vista but I don't have that)
- Type
winword /r

- Press Enter or click OK.
- See if you can open a document while Word isn't active.

What error message do you get when you try to open it from Explorer?

If no message, what happens?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Unable to open a Word document (Word 2007)

Hello Hans,

Thank you for your response. I have repaired it and it now seems to runs smoother.

I did notice that it was not just one document, but all Word and Excel documents. It appears to attempt to load, but the document is not visibly open. When I maximize or minimize the window it then becomes visible. I ended up repairing all of MS Office Professional 2007.

The PC is extremely slow and seems to struggle. It is an OptiPlex GX270 with 1 GB RAM. Any suggestions?

Hi Dave,

Thank you for responding. There is no error message, but it appears to not have enough resources to make the document visible. It seems to be cable of opening Word or Excel and making the document available, but not visible. Only when I maximize or minimize the window does it become visible.

It was just a guess, but I would have thought 1GB of RAM should have been enough. Or is this a completely different issue?

Thanks Again,

If you are running Vista then you need 2 GIGs of RAM, and 4 if your machine can handle that much.
Also if it id Vista Home Basic that may also be a issue!
