Sounds in IE 7.0 (7.0.5xxxx)

HOW do I get rid of those annoying "blip" sounds in IE 7? I've looked at every setting I can think of, both in IE and in Windows, to no avail. When IE opens I hear "blip, blip, blip". They also occur when I navigate to other sites, when I return to the home page, and "just because." They drive me NUTS. Silence is golden, and I'd love to find out how to ditch them once and for all.

Thanks!

I think you may find it is the 'Complete Navigation' sound in your Sounds And Audio setup - just set it to no sound!

Is this in Control Panel or in IE Options? I don't find "Navigation" in either one. Sorry to be so ignorant, but where do I find Navigation to set to no sounds? BTW, I'm using XP Pro as my OS, if that makes any difference, I failed to mention that.

Thanks!

OK...disregard the last post. I didn't see the graphic. Which makes me feel very stupid, needless to say. It's still early here, can I use that as an excuse?

Actually, I have no sounds selected for everything, and it doesn't make a difference. Still get that annoying "blip" sound. Enough to make me switch to Firefox just so I won't have to listen to it!

No problem

OK - are you running any pop-up blocker or similar add-on that may be indicating it's doing something?

Does it happen with all sites? - if not, can you give us a URL to a site that it does happen on which may give us a clue?

Re: Sounds in IE 7.0 (7.0.5xxxx)

I don't think it's related to pop-ups. I turned off Play a sound when a pop-up is blocked in pop-up settings and it doesn't make any difference. I have Blocked Pop-up Window, Complete Navigation, and Start Navigation set to no sound in Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. In fact the only Explorer with sound is emptying the Recycle bin. The "blip" doesn't happen on all sites, but it does happen on most: - Yahoo, for example (http://www.yahoo.com/). Some business and professional sites I don't hear it, some I do. I can't discern a pattern.

Is a puzzlement, to quote the king in the King and I

Are you saying that there are NO speaker icons showing in the Control Panel, Sounds listing?
If there is a speaker to the left of a entry then the sound is ON.
Can you provide a screen shot of the area that Leif has bee posting about?

Jo,
Why not turn the speakers off completely?
I have mine turned off with the speaker power switch because I can't stand the annoying beeps and boops that come with the windows default sounds. I turn then on again only if I want to listen to something that has sound included, that I WANT to hear.

Re: Sounds in IE 7.0 (7.0.5xxxx)

Egg-zactly! The ONLY speaker icon showing in Windows Explorer is for the Recycle bin. I do have them for other programs, including Windows itself, though. When I turned off all sounds, period, I still heard the annoying "blip."

Um....how do I insert a screen shot? Copy paste doesn't seem to work.

Thanks!

I have gone an did the opposite of the instructions from Leif and the sound is turned on, then followed the instructions and the sound is OFF.

Do you click the Apply button of just OK yourself out?
If you do NOT use the apply button, I think you must restart IE for the changes to take affect.

Re: Sounds in IE 7.0 (7.0.5xxxx)

I've been doing Apply, then closing and restarting IE. Blip is still there. I also tried applying a sound to Navigation, applying it, then changing it back to none and clicking Apply. The blip is still there.

As I mentioned previously, this has been driving me nuts, I've tried every setting I can think of to get rid of it.

Suggestions (besides tossing the 'puter out the window, and I've been tempted sometimes) welcome!

If you set your sound scheme to No Sounds, can you still hear it?
