    Uniblue Registry Booster

I received a solicitation from Firetrust (the company that puts out Mailwasher) offering a program called Uniblue Registry Booster 2. Apparently this program is actually from Uniblue Systems LTD and carries the Version No: 2.0.1164.3801.
Has anyone in the Lounge actually used this program or does anyone have information on the usefulness of this program for cleaning the Registry?
    Regards,
    Slim

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

I'm a long time user of MailWasher and I too received that email, Slim. For the benefit of Loungers, here's a link: Registry Cleaner > Free Download & Scan

I haven't tried it, but I'm a real "conservative" when it comes to programs like this, so I didn't jump on it. Like you, I'd be interested to hear if other Loungers have any experience with it.

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

With newer operating systems such as XP & Vista I believe that regular use of registry cleaners & so called boosters is not needed. The registry used to have size limitation that made cleaning a must. I've yet to see any reliable statistics that cleaning or defragging of the registry on a modern system does any good at all. You'll read all sorts of opinions and undocumented stories about how good these programs are and how people have never had a crash. Well, I've never had a registry related problem in 6+ years of running XP & 1.5 years of running Vista and I've never run a registry cleaner or optimizer or whatever you want to call it on my XP & Vista systems. I regularly install and unistall software & hardware on systems at home & work.

I am with Joe on this one. I have never used a REG cleaner and I have not seen any changes of my system. I have read way to many horror stories about how the REG got way to clean.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

Thanks for your comments Joe. I too have not had a (known) problem with the registry but the scan that was done showed something like 554 errors or defects in the registry that should be corrected. The promise seemed to be that it would speed up the system. The program may not cause harm but it appears that you think it would be wise to leave well enough alone. I appreciate your response.
    Best regards,

    Dear Al,
See Joe's remarks. I think I will leave well enough alone for the time being. If you hear of any new information on this subject I would be glad to hear from you.

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

    Hi there.
I've used Uniblue Registry Booster for about a year and have never experienced any problems with it.
It always finds some problems with the registry like links missing etc.. The first time I used it there were in excess of 600 problems but now when I use it once a month the problems are usually less than 10. I make a point of using it immediately after I uninstall programs. You are given the option of making a backup each time the scan is run so I always do that.

    I like it.

    Dear Jack,
You have certainly given a good review of the Uniblue Registry Booster program.
Have you been able to notice any improvement in speed as a result of using the program??
The improvement in speed seems to be one of the selling points touted by the seller and like many folks these days I could use an improvememt in speed.
    Best regards,

    Hi Slim.
Initially, I noticed quite an improvement in speed. That was a year ago. Since I use it monthly, and sometimes more often I assume that it just keeps my system running efficiently.
I'm running XP SP2 for your information.
    I never regretted buying it.
    Cheers,
    Jack

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

Please define and quantify "quite an improvement in speed". From my experience and what I've read this sort of observation is illusory. You expect an improvement in speed because the author says so. You want to believe it so it appears to be faster. Did you do anything else to your system at that time?

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

    Sorry Joe.
I can't define or quantify my illusory observation.
I guess if I walk down the street and I think I'm going faster it's illusory too.
If my programs run faster, I don't try defining or quantifying the faster operation,. That would waste too much time.
Hey, if someone asks me if I felt there was a difference in speed on my machine I answer "yes" if there were and "no" if there weren't. I don't really care if you believe me or not.
I've got nothing to sell here.
    Regards,

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

Please don't take offense. If a registry cleaner provides any performance benefit it is likely to be of such a factor that the vast majority of people won't notice it in day-to-day work. Please see Why I donít use registry cleaners | Ed Bottís Windows Expertise | for more details and an explanation of my skepticism about the efficacy of registry cleaners.

Did you make any other changes to your system around the same time? More RAM? Faster disk? Start to defragment regularly? Cleanup unused programs & temporary files?

Last, if you feel that this does your PC some good that is fine. It is all in the PC family so we can have many different opinions. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Slim,
I have been Uniblue for about a year now and like the other poster, I run it at least once a month, and always after I remove a program. I have had no problems to date.

    Re: Uniblue Registry Booster

    Joe,
In answer to your questions about any changes I made around the same time. No.
I regularly delete .tmp files and defragment . Combined with Uniblue, these seem to keep my machine running well.
