Area code for local calls (2003/SP3)

Living in Canada, our phone numbers are in thre form of a 3 digit area code followed by a 3 digit exchange , and finally a 4 digit number. 705-555-1234

If one wishes to make a long distance call within North America this is preceded by a 1

Until recently, If one wished to make a local call, only the last 7 digits were required.

Currently I am required to include the area code for local numbers. I have been unable to configure Outlook to do this.

    Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

You could create an Area Code Rule for your own area code in the Phone and Modem Options control panel. See Changing Windows 2000 and XP to use 10- or 11-digit dialing for an illustrated step-by-step guide. It's similar in Windows Vista.
