Graphs in Word (97-2000)

I have a 8 page word document with 18 or so small graphs on it. They all go from 0-100 % on the y-axis, however, when it prints (and not in print preview), the axis changes to 90% on some of the graphs (not all!) This problem seems unrelated to whether there is a value of 100% within the data or not. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Right-click the graph's Y axis.
Select the "Scale" tab.
De-select "Minimum" and set it to zero.
De-select "Maximum" and set it to 1.

This should do the trick (I hope).

Well, I checked out the scale, and that seemed to have something to do with it (thanks for the tip). Interestingly, though, the "Minimum" and "Maximum" were set at 0 and 1, but the graphs that displayed correctly had the "Maximum" box unchecked. I went through and unchecked the rest of the "Maximum" options, and that seemed to fix the problem. Very confusing!

I don't know if your question was answered already - sounds like it was. But did there may be 1 other piece of info I'm not sure if you noticed. On top of the checkboxes for the axes is the word Auto. When the box is checked, Excel (or the Office Chart pgm if you're using that) figures out the scale of the axes based on the data. If you uncheck it or type a number in the box at the right, you can override Excel's choice. It took me a long time to realize this so thought I'd pass it along.

Ahhh, that makes sense why UN-checking the maximum value actually made it work. That really confused me, but like you, I never noticed the "Auto". You would think it would let you set the maximum and minimum and also choose auto if you want. Hmmm.... Thanks Fred!

Not sure what you're asking for. I think it has all the capabilities you want.
- If the box under Auto is checked for that property (eg, Min, Max), then the value is as Excel determined by looking at your data
- if the box under Auto is not checked (which can only happen if you uncheck it or type a number in the box to the right of the property name which removes the check for you), then you can set the value but don't have to. So you can uncheck Max while leaving Min as checked.

What I'm wondering about is whether you had problems printing with the boxes checked (values determined by Excel) but no problems with the boxes unchecked WITH the same values (or with diff values you put in, but doesn't sound like you had done that)? It would be curious, and beyond my ability to explain, why the same value for max prints OK if the box is unchecked but not if it is checked.

In both cases, the minimum was set to 0 and the max was set to 1 (the graph compares percentages), and the boxeds in front of them were also checked. When I unchecked the max box I couldn't see a difference in the screen display, but when it printed it showed the full scale instead of cutting it off.

So without changing the actual max value of 1, you were able to fix something that didn't print right (w/ the max box checked under Auto) to something that did print right (with the box unchecked). In either case, the display was ok. Sounds like a design feature (also known as a bug).
