Stops at Welcome Screen (XP)

Hi All,

My wife's PC stops booting at the Welcome screen - obviously not getting very far in the process. I did a search for "fail to boot" and went back a few screens but did not see anything.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

PS. I think she said she did a system restore to a point before the problem started happening (just a few days ago).

Try to boot to Safe Mode (pressing F8 when the first Windows splash screen appears).

When in Safe Mode, check events (click Start > Run, type EVENTVWR and hit Enter; in Event Viewer window click System on the left pane) marked with red X or yellow question mark. Double-click such event and write down event description.
Then you can try to restore last good configuration (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.)

If restore will not work, please post event descriptions.
