    Layout view not available (2007)

    I want to apply conditional formatting to a label or text box on a form. Access Help tells me I need to first open the form in Layout View. I try to do so, but the application throws up an error message box that reads, "Layout view is unavailable for the form." Sigh.... Can someone tell me why a given form can't be opened in layout view?

    Re: Layout view not available (2007)

    One of the properties of a form is whether Layout View is allowed. See if that is No.

    But I can apply conditional formatting in Design View. Have you tried that?
    Regards
    John

    Aha! "Allow Layout View" was set to No. Thanks!

    No, had not tried applying conditional formatting in Design View. I was just following the simple-easy-to-follow instructions <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.

    One more question: Why might "Conditional" be grayed out for this Label control on the ribbon? What I want is for this label to be visible if the value of another field is greater than a certain value.

    Conditional formatting can only be applied to text boxes and combo boxes.

    IN 2003 Conditional formatting is applied in Design view, so I just started doing the same in 2007 without bothering the look at help.

    You can use code to show/hide the label, in the After Update event of the control whose value you want to check and in the On Current event of the form (so that the visibility of the label is updated when the user moves to another record):

    Private Sub MyControl_AfterUpdate()
    Me.SomeLabel.Visible = (Me.MyControl > 3)
    End Sub

    Private Sub Form_Current()
    Me.SomeLabel.Visible = (Me.MyControl > 3)
    End Sub
