    Snap To (XP Pro)

I'm gettnig totally frustrated. I am trying to DEACTIVATE Snapto feature.

I have tried mouse settings in control panel, and re-booted computer.

I have tried going into registry settings and verified "snaptodefaultbutton" value is zer -
    disableing the feature.

HOWEVER, the blasted thing is still trying to "Snapto" the button it thinks I want.

Is there a registry hack or other option available ?

P.S. I have updated ALL drivers and software programs. I have SP 3 installed and NO viruses.

    Thanks

    Scott,
Try exporting that value to a saved location and then deleting it from the reg.
IF it gives you grief, you can always import it back.

    Hi Bob,

Exported the value to .reg file, deleted the entire branh, and re-booted the computer ....

No good. The mouse STILL insists on performing the snap to function.

NOTE:Found the valus in following four places:
    o HKCUControl PanelMouse
    o HKUDefaultControl PanelMouse
    o HKUS-1-5-19Control PanelMouse
    o HKUS-1-5-20Control PanelMouse

I even removed two locations of "Snaptogrid" associated with Paint which should have no connection.

The mouse is a generic USB and Windows ahd already downloaded and installed latest hardware drivers.

    Bob,

Forgot one side note: I have tried swapping the mouse out fro another (Dell USB).

Received same results. This is driving me crazy.

Kelly has a "do" and "undo" on her Tweaks page at Line 103. Look at the Undo code and see if you've already done that: Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP

I have already verified the valaue as zero, but will try both options on line 103 and let you know.

Running file snaptodisable.reg alone did not work. HOWEVER ...

Running snaptodisable.reg, then Save As - Disable: Back, MRU and Places Bar DID work after re-booting the computer.

    Re: Snap To (XP Pro)

I can't help but wonder whether the "Save As" hack helped fix it or if the re-boot after the first one would have done the trick. But, it obviously doesn't matter if the problem is gone!

    Re: Snap To (XP Pro)

    Hi Big Al,

    I did re-boot after the SnapToDisable.reg.

When that did not work, I tried both registry hacks and re-booted. Sorry about being a little vague in the earlier post.

I realize you must re-boot the comuter after every registry change for the change to be effective. My main wonder is whether the problem resulted from SP3 or the hardware updates were installed - just can not remember.

Now, I guess it doesn't matter. Altough I know many people who love the SanpTo function, I find it frustrating.
