Insert, Object...Media clip (Powerpoint XP SR3)

I want to insert a movie into my powerpoint presentation.

In Word XP I have the menu Insert, Object...Media Clip

In Powerpoint 2007, a menu exists Insert Movie.

however in Powerpoint XP in the menu Insert, Object... - in the object list "Media Clip" doesn't exist.

In Powerpoint XP, to the object list can I add the option "Media Clip"?
is there another way around inserting media clips into powerpoint.
how would I hadd the option "Media clip" into Powerpoint? is it as simple or similiear as adding menu items to Word menus?

thank you diana

Hi Diana

Being lazy because I am rushing around getting ready for work can I point you to this on the MS site http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoi...1555701033.aspx which shows

1. How to insert a movie and play it automatically
2. How to view it full screen, or
3. How to play it as an 'on click' event

HTH

Cheers

As mentioned in the article referred to by Steve Hocking, you can use Insert | Movies and Sounds | Movie from File...
If you don't see this option, make sure that you display full menus (in the Options tab of Tools | Customize...)
If you still don't see it, you can reset the menu bar (in the Toolbars tab of Tools | Customize...)

Thanks Steve, thanks Hans

Insert, Movies and Sounds, Insert Movie from file...

If I select the movie, right mouse click, click edit Movie object, it displays the file location.
does this mean thismenu inserts the movie as a link? therefore if take the powerpoint presentation and place on a USB stick & I go to a client site. when it comes to playing the movie, it will look for the same directory structure, which doesnt exist and as a result the movie won't play?

If I embed the movie, then will the powerpoint presentation be portable & I won't get errors at the clients end?

The powerpoint presentation size doesnt matter. ie when embedding a movie into the powerpoint presentation the file usually bloats, but this is ok.

Ive just embedded a movie via Insert, Object...Create from file. navigate and select my file, click OK (and don't tick checkbox Link).

The result is; a movie is embedded with the Windows Media Player icon. I set the movie to play on the click ie select the movie, right mouse click, select Action settings...Mouse click , object action: Activate Contents, click OK.

When I click on the movie, it fires up in Windows media player...now ive gotta check if Windows media player is available & working at the clients end.

Any easy way to embed a movie?

I dont want to use pack & go...to complicated and I could never get it to work

diana

ps. no standardistation within Microsoft ie between Word & Powerpoint

Video is always linked, never embedded. You should place all video files in the same folder as the presentation, and move/copy them together. That way PowerPoint will always be able to find them.
Windows Media Player comes with Windows, so it should be present on all Windows PCs.

Re: Insert, Object...Media clip (Powerpoint XP SR3)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

I found this article on how to insert Video Objects (Video with Play Controller) into a powerpoint presentation.

http://www.indezine.com/products/pow.../ppvideo3.html

number 3... i dont have the options for "Media Clip" or "Video Clip" option

It doesn't mention what version of Office these instructions are for.

I have Microsoft Office 2002 and Microsoft 2007. I couldnt locate these settings in either of these versions.

Would these options be additonal install options from the Microsoft cd?

many thanks diana

I don't have those options in my PowerPoint 2002 either. I'll check in 2003 later today.

These options (Media clip, Video Clip) exist in PPT 2000.

In later versions see if this helps
"Insert a Media Player Object"

Re: Insert, Object...Media clip (Powerpoint XP SR3)

Hi Diane

I have just had a play with 2003 (i have SP2 installed)

Insert - Object and then from the list I picked Windows Media Player which inserted an instance of the player onto my blank slide, I then right clicked and selected Properties and then clicked into the (Custom) option at the top and Navigated to a WMV on my hard drive. When I pressed F5 the movie automatically starts, if you want more control than that please let me know and I will experiment further.

Cheers
