Reminders (Vista Home Premium/Outlook 7)

For some reason the past week , when Outlook has been opened a few minutes a box appears for about 5 seconds and then disappears that reads: "New Message. There was a problem with reading one or more of your reminders." I don't have any reminders that should be coming up. What may be causing this and how do I correct it?

Try this:
- Quit all instances of Outlook.
- Select Start | All Programs | Accessories | Run.
- Type
outlook /cleanreminders

- Press Enter or click OK.

(See Command-line switches for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007)

Thanks for the reply. I did what you said and a box with a red X appeared that read "Windows cannot find 'Outlook/cleanreminders'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I tried again and got the same results.

I just noticed, you had a space between k and /. I tried it again and no box appeared. I'll see if the reminder box appears tomorrow (it did today).

You may have a corrupt recurring appointment.

You might run the Inbox repair tool - see Scan and repair corrupted Outlook data files.

Another option:
- Backup your .pst file first, to be on the safe side.
- Export your Calendar folder to a .csv file.
- Activate your Calendar.
- Switch to a list view.
- Select all items and delete them.
- Switch back to the original view.
- Import the .csv file into your Calendar.
Since .csv is a plain text format, this should get rid of any corruption in the appointments.

I tried your exporting, deleting and then importing, but the box still appears. So today I deleted everything from the calendar, closed Outlook and restarted. I opened Outlook and again the box appeared about the reminders, even though there are none there!

You could create a new Outlook data file (.pst)
Copy or move all the e-mails etc. that you want to keep from the old .pst to the new one
Specify the new .pst file as the delivery location for new e-mails (in Tools | E-mail accounts | View or change existing accounts)
Then close the old .pst file (you may have to restart Outlook before you can do this).

If that doesn't help either, you might create a new e-mail profile in the Mail control panel or whatever it's called in Windows Vista, and use that.

I have the same problem and am working on it. I think you may find that reminders can come from such places as birthdays that are recorded in Contacts, depending on how you set it up, so don`t just look at Calendar. You might also look at Tools : Account Settings : Data Files and see if it looks complicated.
