Creating a template or base doc with para options (2003)

I want to write a template or a document that can be used as a starter for writing business proposals. At the simplest level, I could put in four paragraphs for a particular area and let our consultants delete three of them. What I would like to do is produce something that enables them to pick one of four business sectors and then insert the appropriate text at that point.

Could someone please outline my options here please?

One option is to have a different template for each sector, and have them use the appropriate one.

Another, if you want to stick to one template, is to create each version of the wording and save each as an Autotext entry. Then they can select the one they want from the Autotext menu (just like you can select standard salutations, etc) or you can even create buttons to go on the toolbar that would insert the text you wanted.

You could save each of the paragraphs as an AutoText entry in the template (make sure that you don't save them in your personal Normal.dot template), giving them a descriptive name. You can then delete the paragraphs from the body of the template.
The user can insert the appropriate paragraph by starting to type the name of the AutoText entry and pressing Enter as soon as Word displays the suggestion to complete the entry.
You could also create a custom toolbar in the template and create buttons for the AutoText entries.

Thanks Ian and Hans. I think I probably will go for the four template option but even that will need some additional templates. I understand the autotext option. Is there anything where on opening a document or reaching a certain point in it, that the user could tick the options there and then the content gets written in. Something like you might see in HTML using javascript to write some content.

Do a search for autotextlist on this forum for a method of choosing autotext entries in a dropdown.
