Odd windows (Windows XP)

I am not sure how much help I can be, you seem to have a couple of things going on.

NvCpl.dll - Nvidia Control Panel which allows changing Nvida video settings.
avgcc.exe - AVG Control Center part of Anti-Virus program by http://www.grisoft.com
msvcr71.dll - Microsoft Visual C Runtime library version 7.1 engine.
msconfig.exe - The System Configuration utility helps you find problems with your Windows XP configuration.
0xc0000022 - The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022).

From what I can gather there are some basic problems when getting all of the above errors: A possible virus, the user does not have the rights to run the application, or a corrupted DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file.

A) Can you perform a virus scan of your system to take this possibility out of the equation ?

You do not mention the version of AVG software, but on AVG Free Forum, another user had a similar problem with AVG 7.5 called avgcc.exe - the application failed to initialize. At the end of the thread, there is a recommended tool.
Microsoft KB Article 310560 How to troubleshoot configuration errors by using the System Configuration utility in Windows XP may help in troubleshooting the MSConfig.exe error.

C) In addition to downloading replacement DLL files from the software's website, I found DLL-files.com where you can download filesd for <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>. You can find and download nvcpl.dll here and msvcr71.dll here.

When I boot up I get the first two messages.

When I try to open msconfig I get the third message.

I also cannot open "Add/remove programs" in my Control panel.

Have you tried to do a System Restore to a time before the problem began ???

Ran scan with AVG 7.5 and found no viruses.

Downloaded up date drivers from Nvidia and still get the first window.

Will do check out the rest of your items in a bit.

Must attend a wake tonight of a acquaintance.

Also I must mention that once I click on "OK" on the windows I get after start up, my PC run OK, except for getting into the Add/remove, volume, and msconfig.

I can surf the web, etc.

Also must mention that I installed new keyboard Wednesday.

Every thing was working fine until yesterday.

Yes I did a system restore to two different days. No luck.

Found the answer to the odd ball problem I was having and did the following.

I booted up in safe mode, went to Control Panel> add/remove and found the Nvidia drivers and un installed them.

Rebooted in normal mode and went to the Nvidia Web Site and downloaded the up to date drivers for my video card FX5500.

Rebooted in normal mode and the first error messages I got in post #1 were gone.

One down three to go!

Rebooted in safe mode again and went to Control Panel> AVG and un installed it.

Rebooted in normal mode and went to my C: and clicked on to the AVG 7.5 installation and reinstalled AVG.

Up dated it and rebooted in normal mode and the second error in post #1 was gone.

Two down two to go!

Went to msconfig and it opened with no error message.

Three down and one to go.

Went to control panel > Add/remove and it opened with no problem.

Four Down and all is fixed.

I HOPE!!!! Going to get some sleep now. Will see how things happen in the morning.

One thing that puzzles me is HOW THE HELL DID ALL THIS HAPPEN????

I haven’t done anything new to this PC in the last few months except get a new keyboard.

Found out that the new keyboard was not compatible to the 98se os that I have on one of my drives.

Tested all HD's with WD Diag test in both Quick and Extended test.

No Errors were found.

Also test both Kingston 512 mem sticks.

No errors were found.

If there is corrupted data someplace, how would I find that data without un-installing and reinstalling it?

Are there other ways other than Anti-virus, spyware and malware testers?

Everything seems OK so far except for one small thing.

I don't have the volume control icon in the task bar any more.

I went to CP> Sound and Audio Device> under Device Volume and the "place volume icon in task bar" is checked but no icon in the tray.

Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Notification Area...
Check you haven't set it as hidden under 'Hide inactive icons'.

Tried that and it did not work.

What I did find was that I have no sound at all.
