ZoneAlarm link

Does someone have a direct link to the current version of the Free ZA setup file?
All I can get is a 206 KB setup file that then will down load and install. I keep getting a the following error (see attachment).

Re: ZoneAlarm link

I had exactly the same problem. The trick I used was to use Windows Install Cleanup utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301) to remove the existing free ZA entry. Then I ran the same installer file you have already downloaded and everything went smoothly. Hope it does for you too.

Dave,
I don't know if this is the setup file you want but check this one out from ZA.

It's always good to have a bookmark to the ZoneAlarm User Forum if one is ZA user. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

It's also good to know about the ZA Release history pages, known for holding download links. (Though some time, years ago it took some time before the links were updated there, compared to d/l page.)

I'm on an old release of ZA, and isn't so often at their site. Some time ago they changed their site, but the "clickety-click" to the release history has been more or less the same, though they do make it hard!

Start page: http://www.zonealarm.com
<UL><LI>Try to find "Download" and "Free". <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> In this case, on menu "Download & Buy", select "More Free Downloads".
<LI>Now you are on the page Bob linked to, called My Zone™ (or Free Downloads, or ..); click "Free ZoneAlarm Firewall".
<LI>On the next page; ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, do NOT click Download now (it will take you to another download page and the mini-setup file). Instead, here comes the trick that has been the same once the ZA Free page is found, click "Support" down to the right.
<LI>On the next page; "TECHNICAL SUPPORT", at bottom click "Release History".
For each branch and version there are release notes and download links. Voilà. Now bookmark that page or memorise the path! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

QED.

Dixi,

Sorry to appear <img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30> - I tried your solution and could not find the "Release History" reference.

The last file I downloaded fro Zone Alarm via the Update function of ZA Firewall was "zlsSetup_70_470_000_en.exe" which was an approximate 45MB file.

The place I downloaded from was FileHippo.Com ZoneAlarm Free. To the right is a listing of all the previous history downloadable links.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Unlike Scott, I followed your instructions and DID get to the Release History page (attachment) but none of the "download" links seems to work. All the most recent ones that I tried lead to a Yahoo search page, saying the ZoneLabs (server URL) can't be found. I'm curious because there seems to be a Version (... .473) which is newer than I'm running and my ZA has never invited me to update. Strange.

Edited to add: I just tried Scott's FileHippo link and they DO have the latest .473 version available, so I downloaded it from there.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Hi,
Er, my nickname isn't dixi. Now go and look up that. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> Do I have to tell you all everything? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

It would help if you told me where my, not solution, but instruction stopped to work, where did it get impossible to follow it?

And by the way; do you say that the update function in ZA uses FileHippo? Or do you mix the last from ZA with "I downloaded from ..." Hiippo etc.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Al,
I haven't, obviously, checked every link [on that page] and confirmed that it works with a "installable" download.

But it does work, see screenshot, size for the latest (then not everyone would want the latest):
zlsSetup_70_473_000_en.exe
44,6 MB (46 804 368 byte)
Signed 14 April 2008.

Now I will not do a test install. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I don't know what you boys do, I thought this was a simple matter and made a simple to follow reply to Dave.

This is simple. It works! How many shall I download? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> See added screenshot.

Yes, Hippo works but so does ZA.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Argus,

I tried to follow your instructions and all went fine until after I had clicked the "Release History" link. This took me to a page with a download now image with a link that led to another page that started with the text "You tried to visit dl4.zonealarm.com, which is not loading" (this is an OpenDNS error).

The failing link pointed to http://dl4.zonealarm.com/u/dlr/bin/free/10..._473_000_en.exe

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Stuart,
I don't know; what do you make out of that? When something doesn't work for me I do a little troubleshooting on my side, to see if I have missed something, what the error could mean etc. I'm no DNS expert. (And by the way I didn't click the button (download now image?), but the link "click here" for the specific version. The Download button link and the "click here" link to 7.0.473.000 is obviously the same, but not all want the latest, and the Download button is for the latest.)

OK, let us all say that it doesn't work, forgive my intervention in this thread, just wanted to point Dave to a place at ZA with direct access to different versions [that hasn't been withdrawn due to security, the last of every branch is often left etc.]. And an access that is also mentioned in the ZoneAlarm User Forum, though I did not get the direction there. I have been a ZA user for, don't know 8-10 years, so I have been to their site every now and then. I could have added a shorter instruction, one less step, but since my earlier post was at 3:50 AM <img src=/S/yawn.gif border=0 alt=yawn width=15 height=15> I forgot that I usually go direct via "Support". But since no one can get downloads, shorten the instruction is now moot.

It's like in science, if no one else can repeat what you did, then it can't be done.

But also: if one person sees a black and red swan, S/he can say there exist a black and red swan. However, s/he can't say ALL swans are black and red. But there is at least one black and red swan.

Let's all use Hippo and be happy. And I will crawl back to my little cave.

Hi t8ntlikly,
<UL><LI>Pro Primo: I'm not Dave! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
<LI>Pro Secundo: The page you linked to is two click away from the page Bob linked to above, in <post:=717,601>post 717,601</post:>. Click "Free ZoneAlarm Firewall" on the page in his link, then the "DOWNLOAD NOW" button to the right on the next page, and you arrive to the page you linked to.
<LI>Pro Tertio: The "Get Basic PC Protection", "Basic Firewall Only", "ZoneAlarm Firewall" button on the page you linked (and also in the path of Bob's link) does only download the "mini-setup" file: zaSetup_en.exe, 205 kB (210 416 byte), that wasn't the one Dave asked for, as I understand it.
In <post:=717,559>post 717,559</post:> Dave said, among other things:
"Does someone have a direct link to the current version of the Free ZA setup file? All I can get is a 206 KB setup file that then will down load and install."

Did you test your link?

<img src=/S/stupidme.gif border=0 alt=stupidme width=30 height=30> - as I mentioned in my post - will attempt lookup later when my head stops hurting, receiving a piunding on the top of the skull.

<hr>It would help if you told me where my, not solution, but instruction stopped to work, where did it get impossible to follow it?<hr>
Found my error. I did not pay close attention to the instruction. i clicked the "Support" at top middle menu, not under the "Need Help ?" on right side. From there i found the link you mentioned and was able to download the same file ~45MB in size.

<hr>... Or do you mix the last from ZA with "I downloaded from ..." Hiippo etc.<hr>
This was a separate sentence, apparently poorly constructed paragraph. I just wanted to mention that I have been downloading the updates from FileHippo.Com since I have never had a problem from this site.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

I finally found my way to you page you wanted me to go to.
But ALL I get is the page can not be displayed.

I did find the needed full up file at a different site.

Re: ZoneAlarm link

Dave,
Nice to get a reply from you. I don't know perhaps we have two parallel Internet out there. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Just for fun I started IE7 (I have it installed & updated, but have it locked down in its settings, and never use it).

It works, though MY security settings for the Internet Zone in IE7 apparently blocks downloads, somehow, see screenshot. But I said the settings were locked down. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Anyhow, I can't from my place solve DNS problems or other problems around the world. It's like if I didn't show hidden files and then replied "can't see that folder" (or even worse: "there is no such folder"), forgetting that I might have a setting in place making it not show up. However this does NOT seem to be a setting problem.

The shortest way, anyhow, is: click on the Support menu [no dropdown], select "FREE ZoneAlarm", then "Release History". One less step, as I mentioned before.
