Re: Irfanview

A search on Google for "irfanview instructions" throws up plenty of help, such as this page at zdnet

Re: Irfanview

I want to uninstall Irfanview...not use it. Those instructions tell me how to do stuff with it...I want the instructions on how to 'start' irfanview, so I can get to the extensions as they list on the right side of that page.

Irfanview

Daughter installed Irfanview, and now decides she doesn't want it . Instructions state: Start Irfanview>Properties>Extensions, etcetc.
*feeling dumb here* What does 'start Irfanview' mean?
What do I do? Have shortcut on desktop/have data in directory...but nothing states 'extensions'..grrrr
Please, need simple instructions.
TIA

Sorry - you've lost me.

You want to uninstall Irfanview, yet you want the instructions on how to start Irfanview.

To uninstall, check out your Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs

Re: Irfanview

"Start Irfanview"
Irfanview should have been installed on your start menu. To start it click Start|Programs|Irfanview|Irfanview.

"Get to extensions"
From the Irfanview menu click Options|Properties.
From the Properties dialog click the Extensions tab.

Removing Irfanview is a lot harder than using it. You will need to identifiy which program is to be associated with the various extensions listed when Irfanview is gone. If no extensions show as checked on the Extensions page, then, you can just remove the software.

You remove software by clicking Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs then selecting the software to be removed.

Re: Irfanview

ok...the instructions I was FINALLY able to figure out...it stated to 'start irfanview'-in order to uninstall the software(etc)...not listed in the ADD/REMOVE at all...that was the problem...mind not working today (CRS)...I proceeded to follow instructions to the letter...everything!..but all the gifs/pictures,etc still have the Irfanview 'logo' on them..How do I revert back to the way they were orignially?? WinME IE 5.5SP2.
Daughter thought this software would be great to use-but found it too complicated for her needs.
I guess what I am saying - is what 'viewer' or whatever does MS use originally...grrr...I am stuck..I can't even word this correctly.

Lonnie:

Resetting the associations to what they were before depends on what viewers you will be using instead of IrfanView. The simplest way to reset associations is to either:

a)Start the other viewer program(s) and let them reclaim extensions. This may be either automatically via "... Is not the default viewer. Do you want to make it default..." type dialogs when the viewer is started or an option similar to Irfanviews to associate extensions within the program.

b)Use Start|Find|Files or Folders|*.<ext> to locate specific file types and then try to open them. If this fails, then, select the program to use from the list of programs provided.

The other possibility is to learn how to use IrfanView. It is one of the simplest graphic viewers available. You might want to have your daughter jump into the thread with any specific questions.

Re: Irfanview

That's just it...I have no idea what the other 'viewer programs' are...I don't use the stuff myself.
Daughter doesn't belong to Lounge - I do all the asking/posting.
Oh well, guess I will just have to re-d/l Irfanview again and just have it sit in the directory.
Thanks anyway for all the help...sorry to be such a pest by asking dumb things.

No problem Lonnie .

I had to recheck the IrfanView Help myself to see the "Uninstall" procedure. Never wanted to get rid of it so I had not realized it did not have a standard Windows Unistaller.

Re: Irfanview

Hi Lonnie
You don't uninstall Irfan View, and it doesn't appear in Add remove programs because it doesn't register ie. make changes to your Registry. No uninstaller needed. The reason it is causing bafflement is that such decent behaviour is highly unusual. If only there were more that behaved this way.
Just delete it, though why anyone would want to is beyond me. It's one of the best and most versatile image viewers around, recommended highly by everyone who has used it , very easy to come to grips with and it's FREE. What more do you want? You need to spend cash to get the same degree of functionality from a commercial offering. I .
If it's a child concerned, might I suggest a little gentle education? Run a slide show of pokemon images (if you've got them it takes about 20secs to set up). She won't be able to resist...(if she does, give her a talk on fiduciary prudence in the home) Only kidding!!

The 'child' is 31...and has agreed that she will keep it in her system...Mummy (moi) has threatened her with 'no more buying educational software for grandson' She states that she will learn to use the software when 'Mummy learns how to use it'...dang! She got me there...the little devilette Now that means I have to get all of the tutorials from google and start practicing...geesh. I taught her how to use smilies in email and now I have to teach her this too...HEY!...maybe I can get a trade-off...she teaches me how to use Word...I teach her Irfanview!!!!!
Whatcha think?

True, but she works and is a 6th grade Catechism teacher and will be doing pt after-school tutoring PLUS
pt college classes - so who knows when either one of us will be able to learn from the other
But I will try to learn Irfanview.

Hi Lonnie
You might have to change Pokemon for Piers Brosnan...
