Cannot purge print queue (XP SP3)

I have two PCs and a Brother HL-1430 printer on a US Robotics router. I cannot clear the print queue that is showing 6 documents. I am unsure which PC they came from. If I try to delete them individually I get the message "Error processing command". If I try to cancel all documents nothing happens. I have tried the "net stop spooler" command, gone into computer maintenance and stopped the spooler there as well, deleted the files in the spool/printer directory, rebooted etc etc. I have done all of this on both PCs and still I cannot print via the network printer. The documents will not clear. If I connect the printer directly to my PC it prints OK so then I uninstalled the printer drivers from both PCs and then reinstalled the printer on the network. When I opened up the newly installed printer the 6 documents appear from somewhere so I cannot print via the network. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Cannot purge print queue (XP SP3)

    Hi Keith

There are two ways to do this:

    1) Start XP in Safe Mode
    2) Clear Print Queue from there as it will not be running

    OR

    1) Click Start
    2) Run
    3) Type NET STOP SPOOLER
    4) Click OK

    To start again:

    5) Type NET START SPOOLER

The latter is my preferred method so try that first.

Re: Cannot purge print queue (XP SP3)

Please allow me to jump in here with a solution of my own. I had the self same problem this morning. The way I fixed it was to power off the printer, reboot and turn the printer on again. No more print jobs stuck in the queue.

Jerry many thanks for these suggestions. In answer to Gloria I had tried rebooting the printer many times but before I got a chance to Jerry's ideas a friend suggested that I should reboot the router. This did the trick and the problem is now solved but why it happened remains a mystery to me. Thanks for your time. Keith
