Adobe Reader 9

Adobe Reader 9 has been released. Just be aware of the other free programs you can get if you do not de-select them. (Adobe and others are increasingly doing this nowadays).

Windows version needs at least Windows 2000 SP4, Mac version need OS X v10.4.1110.5.3

For more details on the new version see theses Adobe articles - Adobe Reader 9 features and Adobe - Reader 9: Reasons to upgrade

What other programs? I saw no opportunities to deselect anything. (An icon for Acrobat.com has appeared on my desktop as well as one for Adobe Reader, but warned by your post I was looking out for these things and saw no opportunity not to install that or anything else.)

The download page also had the "Free eBay Desktop" selected for download by default.

Strange - that's not on the download page I see. I wondered if it might be a regional thing, but I see you are in the UK too, so that's not it.

Curiouser and curiouser. If I go for the download using Firefox, I see the check box for the Free eBay Desktop. And if I go to the download page using IE, I don't get a check box for Free eBay Desktop, but I do get one for Free Google Toolbar.

Finally, using Opera, which is what I actually did, I don't see either offer.

There are quite a number of "reasons" in that link Tony provided, not the least of which is launch speed!

Seein' as how it's a new release I suppose one would have to wait a few days to get other opinions from a wide ranging user base.

I would appreciate some feedback from those who have already installed AR 9. It seems that this program is getting more and more bloated with "features" that few need or use. Unfortunately, there are some PDF files I have that contain elements which only AR can access, e.g., attachments. Version 8 works fine but I am interested in reading a comparison between 8 and 9 here.

Some of this "Bloat" is for the new improved protection that is in the New improved version of Acrobat.
See http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
