Excel to FP (FP2003)

I have a very big workbook in excel that i would love to convert into FP. I have not had luck converting it due to the features I am using (pulldowns, pivot tables, macros)

I have tried spreadsheetconvert and just looked into the xlsgen program. My goal is to NOW use my excelbook on the web and a standalone exe program.

Are there any more options available to me that i am unaware of??

I don't think you'll have much luck trying to convert the workbook since it is big and complicated. I'd just make it available as a link on the website so that people can download it and open it in their own version of Excel.

I thought about that but then anyone using it is limited to Excel. I never thought it would be so hard to convert it - and not compatible (Excel and FP)

It would take so long to rewrite it in FP, I am not that great at FP, just can do the basic pages and such (databasing in it may be hard for me).

Almost everyone has Excel nowadays. And the spreadsheet program in Open Office ( <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>) is able to open Excel workbooks too, so making the workbook available for download shouldn't really be a limitation.

I was going to open office buit the macros have to be all rewritten and I have over 500 macros that would have to be done. Took over a year to do the book.

Thats what i thought too. The first 3 people I gave the program to did not. I thought everyone had excel. Thats the reason why I built the program in excel. I will try my best to redo the code in FP.

Think long and hard before you begin. Trying to duplicate the functionality of a 'plain' workbook is not a trivial task, but with a workbook full of macros and pivot tables it'll be positively daunting.
I'd also investigate alternatives - perhaps you can use ASP with a database as data storage.

How efficiently would it be to just insert the excel as a web component - excel sheet into FP2003??

In order for users to view your site and to interact with it they must have the Office Web Components (OWC) installed on their PC's locally. To do this they must have MS Office installed. They must also have Internet Explorer that will work with OWC.

Hans mentions that most people these days have MS Office but you cannot guarantee they have OWC installed.

This product looks interesting: SpreadsheetConverter. They claim their product can duplicate your Excel workbook to an HTML+JavaScript application or an ASP/ASP.Net or as Java/JSP (those are three separate products). The pricing is not too bad, but if it doesn't work, the vendor is a bit distant to be completely assured of a refund.

How exactly would you link the Excel file and where would the actual file be located?
I would also like to have a workbook containing macros available on my website.

You'd need to upload the workbook to the web server (probably using FTP). You'd store it in the same folder as the web page or a subfolder.
The link would be HTML code of the format ...
